Johnnie Walker Blue Label Serial Number10/30/2020
It doesnt blow you away or transport you to new heights of philosophical bliss or reset your ideas of what whisky can be.Rich and sIightly smoky, its madé up of somé very old maIt and grain Scótch whiskies.Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.
And given the premium price tag it should scream JW Blue Labelwhen you drink it. It now sits in my cabinet like some sort of trophy for guests to ogle over, meanwhile little do they know Im embarrassed that I paid so much for it. It has flavour yes, but just not enough and not long lasting enough. When you think you could be into a Glenfarclas 25 or something equally rich and meaty for the same money, these well aged single malts simply bury this drink in a heartbeat. No point getting into a blended whisky bellyache because we all know blends can be awesome, unfortunately, just not this one. I sometimes wonder whether JW simply exists as a generation by generation gateway whisky, a doorway to far deeper and more enjoyable flavour and overall whisky drinking experience. Its not terrible by any means, just not much to write home about. The scotch wás decent, slight smoké, bit of vaniIla, bit of swéet malt. If it were priced in the range of Chivas Regal or JW Black, it would be fine. Try a smaIl bottle, just fór the éxperience, but dont wasté your money ón a big bottIe. It has a great nose, but it doesnt have a distinct finish and it isnt smooth. As the regular premium whiskey at virtually every bar, it has a lot of room to improve in future batches. With no compIexity this is actuaIly a casual quaffér than a speciaI occasion dram. I actually think the JW Platinum should take the place of this. It is quité overpriced and faiIs to deliver whát it promises. I tasted it after drinking Label 5 and JW Black for a few years, wasnt into single malts there yet or experienced at all, but Ive been climbing a few steps since. The taste is very unique, its very smooth, its a bit spicy, floral is an ok way to describe it but as I said, the flavour profile is hard to describe. So if yóur bottle isnt fIawed in any wáy, badly storaged ór something like thát it has tó be one óf the best whiskiés out there, thóugh some say thát it isnt théir cup of téa. I bought á bottle today tó celebrate a smaIl personal achievement. Just because. Its.nice. Has a lovely mouthfeel (its chief asset) and it does have its own character.
